The Boosterthon Fun Run is our main fundraiser for the year! The fun run will take place on November 14th along with a BBQ lunch. All students at HLS are encouraged and can participate in the fun run as this is a whole school event. The kick off assemblies will be on November 4th and parents are welcome to come join in.
Students will also participate in team huddles every day leading up to the fun run that involve character building activities (starting on the 5th). There is no fee to participate, but students will be able to help raise money for the school by receiving pledges. If you choose not to participate in the fundraising portion, don’t worry, your child will still be able to take part in ALL fun run activities. BBQ lunch information will be coming home soon. Please see the events tab for more info and schedules for this event.
Spirit wear is still available in limited sizes and styles. To see what is available please check the spirit wear tab. If you see the size and style that you want, email us to double check the availability. If it is available we will have you send in the order form and money with your child and we will send it home with your child. (other arrangements can be made).
The PTSO monthly meeting is scheduled for Monday November 28th at 7:00pm in the library. See you then!
First quarter is almost over, can you believe it? The PTSO happenings for the month of October are:
Book Fair volunteering - Our Librarian, Patty, puts on the Book Fair for the whole school. She needs volunteers to help work the book fair during the week and this is where we, the PTSO come in. Volunteers are still needed so please click on the link below to see if you can fill a time slot. Most help is needed on Thursday.
Teacher Conference Dinners - Our teachers work hard all year round and are in bright and early and stay extra late during parent teacher conference week. PTSO supplies a dinner on Thursday night for the teachers as a little thank you to them. We need just a few volunteers to help that night. Click on the link below to see what is needed and sign up if you can. We are also in need of donations, they are listed on the volunteerspot link as well.
Spirit Wear - In the school news letter it was said that we would have pre-orders available, however, we are not able to do that this quarter. Instead of pre-ordering, new spirit wear designs will be available for immediate purchase at the book fair. Get your spirit wear in person at the book fair, once they are gone, they are gone. NO additional orders will be taken. The spirit wear designs will include a screen print t-shirt, a hoodie, and a glitter shirt. After book fair any shirts that are still available will be listed on our spirit wear section here on the website.
Now that the school year is off and running, so is PTSO! All our wonderful things have also started this year! First of all, we want to thank all of you who have volunteered to help out. We can‟t do it without your help! School spirit Friday's are officially starting! Every Friday is school spirit day. Students and teachers are encouraged to wear their spirit wear, whether it's an official HLS spirit wear item or if it's just our school
colors, blue and green. August orders will be in by 13th.
Highland Lakes Day of Play is on Saturday, September 21st from 9-11am. Everyone is welcome to come out and join in the fun activities. This event is free for everyone; there will be breakfast type items available for a small cost. Bring your water bottles as there will be water stations to help keep everyone hydrated.
Our next spirit night is still TBD, check back for updated information and be on the lookout for a flier.
Be sure to vote on face book for the Peter Piper Remix challenge for our school to win a pizza party.
Target also has a great free fundraiser going. “Give with Target” is a voting fundraiser where our school earns $1 for each vote up to $10,000. Go on to face book, “Give with Target”, and vote for our school as many times as you can! This is only available during the month of September.
Welcome back from your PTA board members, Ashley, Kristie, Jennifer, Donica and Anndi. We are all excited about the year to come and the fun things that are planned. This year we are adding new things as well as continuing with our favorites.
The 2013-2014 board members are:
Ashley Plum – President
Kristie Snell – Vice President
Jennifer Gharrity – Vice President
Donica Eastland – Treasurer
Anndi Kawamura – Secretary
Meetings will take place once a month on the 3rd Monday at 7:00pm. Everyone is welcome to join us each time. At our first meeting on August 19th at 7:00pm we will be discussing the current PTA boards proposal to transition from being a PTA to a PTSO. There are several benefits of becoming a PTSO. One of our main reasons is that PTSO’s run independently, and therefore we would not have to pay dues to the State and National PTA allowing us to keep that money here at Highland Lakes. We will also elect officers for the PTSO at the first meeting. The current officers are putting their names forward to fill the positions. However, anybody interested in joining the board is welcome to submit their name for consideration in the vote. We will also be explaining our new student portion of the PTSO. Membership in the PTSO will be automatically extended to all teachers, staff, parents and students of Highland Lakes School.
Be sure to take a look through our updated website to stay up to date on the latest events and info.
Hope to see you at our events and meetings this year!
